Message My name's Benji, 24, Husband, Father, and i'm from BFE Oklahoma. I bought my first 2 Z's last month. The first was a piece of junk impulse buy, and it has already been sold. The second was some kind of miracle. A mint condition '94 Slicktop. It's the one I always wanted, but never thought I would be able to find. Picked it up for 4000 with 215,000 miles. Very well taken care of, only issues being some chipped paint here and there, a crack in the bottom of the fascia, and some significant hail damage. The car is going into the body shop next monday for the hail damage. I'm getting a deal for 500 to fix it all since it's winter and all. The Interior is in like new condition. Rear hatch tail light cover trim has a crack, but other than that it's perfect.
The only thing it needs mechanically is a new clutch as the one in it is almost completely gone, as are the shifter bushings. Fun 200 mile drive... Oh it has one more problem, no rust on the entire car except for the battery tray. It's pretty rough. the tray itself isn't THAT bad, but the firewall underneath is also rusting, which is my main concern.

It also had an idle problem that I seem to have fixed. It had a rough idle that bounced between 800-1200rpm and would drop down to 250 or so if I turned on the A/C. Stalled a few times. I removed the IACV/FICD to clean it out and to my surprise it was SPOTLESS. IACV ohmed at 10 or so, and the FICD ohmed at 21. At 215k I expected much worse. I cleaned it with B12 anyway and cleaned the contacts with sand paper and electrical contact cleaner and put it back on. The engine has definitely been taken care of, all of it looks brand new.

Cleaning it fixed the Idle problem, there was a little bit of oxidation on the contacts so that must have been the issue. The only problem I had after I started it up was the check engine light came on. That was a little scary, but when I revved the engine it would go off, then come on again around 1100rpm as it was falling, and just kind of flash on here and there. I assumed this was a vacuum leak so I went and checked over everything and couldn't locate it. Then I decided it probably just needed to get hot to reform the hoses to the pipes etc. That seemed to work, I've ran it around an hour since, and haven't gotten a check engine light yet. Once that was taken care of I starting cleaning all of my other electrical conectors, and removed the MAF and cleaned it with kroil. Nah, jk, used contact cleaner ;)

I suppose that was a long enough introduction. I have a few questions now, and links/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll get some pics up in the next week or so, as I am currently working the night shift.

1. What is the best clutch for an NA? I want slightly better than OEM without it costing me a fortune. I will be replacing all the obvious parts while I have the tranny out. Just need advice on a good clutch, and maybe some things that could be replaced that are commonly overlooked.

2. Lightweight Flywheel/One piece Driveshaft.-I am interested in doing these for the slight gains I might get and the increased throttle response, but have no interest doing it if it is going to increase NOISE. So experiences with those increasing cabin noise would be awesome.

3. Battery tray rust.- I understand that I will need to cut out my tray and tack in a new one, so I just need advice on stopping the rust on the Firewall and making sure it doesn't start again in the next 20-30 yrs or so :)

4. Exhaust.- I would like the added performance, but like the flywheel, I don't want it if it makes too much noise. I have no delusions that the NA is a friggin race car, and I don't want it to sound as such. Stock sound is fine, and I like the quad tips. So aftermarket that isn't too noisy and still has quad tip muffs is what I am after.

I want my Z to be a quiet, comfortable ride. I plan on doing an extensive sound deadening project on it in the future, and install a high end sound system. Will make some videos as I go, but that's down the road a ways.

Since I can't post in the classifieds yet I will put it here. I am looking for some of the OEM 6.5" rear speaker boxes, and will pay a premium for them.

Also am looking for a Black Leather Console Lid, Sun visors and Black leather seats.
